About
Carlyn Hudson is a left-of-center comedy director and writer from a little bitty town in Texas who now calls Los Angeles home.
She cut her teeth directing dozens of sketches and branded pieces for Funny or Die and CollegeHumor. Carlyn’s horror/comedy short WAFFLE premiered in competition at SXSW in 2020 and has since been played on thousands of laptops (and hopefully a few TV screens) across the globe, picking up multiple best director awards in the process. Ringer called WAFFLE one of the best films of the fest, saying "Hudson has a particular sense of humor, both uplifting and disquietingly absurd." Another reviewer compared her to Jordan Peele but she's too embarrassed to cite that one here. Other recent shorts include the dark comedy/sci-fi THE WORKPLACE, distributed by Dust and Gunpowder and Sky, and NICE ASS, another SXSW premiere about a giant butt. She’s also proud member of the Writer’s Guild of America, mainly for features that you’ve never heard of (yet).
As a commercial director, Carlyn specializes in cinematic dialogue comedy and has worked with brands such as JIF (one of Source Creative’s top campaigns of 2020), Google, Jack in the Box, Nike, and Annovera, whose campaign starring Whitney Cummings won a Cannes Silver Lion in 2021. She’s also won a Shark Award in celebrity direction for PGA Tour Superstore spot featuring Carl Weathers.
When Carlyn is not working, she’s likely on the tennis court. She’s a member of (checks cal) three tennis leagues/teams at present. She also attends church* (the cinema) weekly with her wife, Alex. They sincerely hope you caught The Substance in theaters!!!
